We got it! Best Lighting Investment of the Year 2023.

Tuesday, 26 March 2024 07:46

The lighting of the "Zakopane" road tunnel along the S7 expressway route under Mount Luboń Mały, on the Lubień-Rabka Zdrój section, has been awarded the "Best Lighting Investment of the Year 2023" by the Polish Lighting Industry Association. Adam Pogorzelski, Member of the Board and Operations Director, accepted the award on behalf of ATM Lighting.

On January 31, 2024, at the International Lighting Equipment Fair ŚWIATŁO 2024 in Warsaw, the awards ceremony for the best lighting investment of 2023 and the best illuminated municipality took place.

Report from the gala:

The committee took into consideration the comprehensiveness of the investment executed. Not only was appropriate lighting provided for the road surface and walls, but also for emergency lighting, emergency door lighting, and lighting for technical rooms. The selection and placement of luminaires ensure very good visibility in the tunnel, providing adequate luminance levels. The lighting control system, with a light sensor installed on the last pole before entering the tunnel, allows for adjusting the entrance luminance level at any time of the day and in different tunnel zones according to daylight conditions. The arrangement of luminaires inside the tunnel does not cause a stroboscopic effect, ensuring drivers a very high level of visibility and comfort when passing through the tunnel.

The lighting of the tunnel, spanning 2020 meters, required the installation of:

  • 1222 tunnel luminaires TNL440LED,
  • 357 units of evacuation luminaires TNL300LED,
  • 104 evacuation luminaires TNL310LED,
  • 22 sets of emergency door lighting systems TNL320LED,
  • 175 units of technical lighting INS340LED.

During passage through the transition zone of the tunnel, the adaptive luminance of the human eye decreases. This process can be disrupted by physiological glare caused by the action of lighting fixtures in the transition zone. Additionally, physiological glare leads to a deterioration of contrast in object visibility, thus reducing the ability to recognize obstacles and vehicles. Therefore, in tunnel lighting design, special attention should be paid to the entrance zone of the tunnel, where the phenomenon of glare should be minimized. This task is more challenging because sunlight varies depending on the time of day and current weather conditions. By implementing a lighting control and regulation system (with a light intensity sensor installed on the last pole before entering the tunnel), it is possible to adjust the luminance level in different tunnel zones to daylight conditions. The tunnel is equipped with emergency lighting, which efficiently indicates the evacuation route in emergency situations. Thanks to an additional strobe module in the TNL310LED luminaires installed at evacuation exits, the escape route can be recognized even during heavy tunnel smoke.
